Default #VINB Tue 13/11/2012: Third level grants and fees

At the slightly later time of 23:05 - info not ‘official’ tv3; it’s from USI

    John Logue, USI President https://twitter.com/john_logue
Derek Nolan, Lab TD Galway West http://www.labour.ie/dereknolan/
Jonathan O'Brien, SF TD Cork North Central http://www.sinnfein.ie/contents/20207
Catherine Halloran, Political correspondent Irish Daily Star http://irishpoliticalpopcorn.blogspot.ie/

Sorry folks, but I haven’t the foggiest idea what’s on tonight as I haven’t been given any info from tv3 on tonight’s #vinb, so I’ll have to fill in the details on the grid as we go along and I hear the broadcast. So it’s just one big surprise to me as well as you!

According to USI, John Logue will be on #VINB to talk about third level grants and fees. Tonight this was the situation:

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has formally apologised to students and their parents for the distress caused by delays in processing grants.

Speaking during this evening's private members debate in the Dáil on the issue, Mr Quinn said that as Minister, he accepted responsibility for the problems.
So that’s all the info I have at the moment. I’ll update as soon as I get more info. But it seems strange that Vinny would look at this as RTE’s The Frontline covered it last night.

Yup, Vinny is covering grants tonight. Also being looked at is gay marriage and the inter-Government row over abortion legislation.

Was there a delay in processing Ruairí Quinn's car/work journey expenses for his trip to his holiday home in Galway?

    Somehow I doubt it.

Another shambles. Anything the public sector attempt ends in disaster. Who would give any VEC control over this sort of task? A more incompetent and pointless organisation would be hard to imagine. Minister should walk the plank.

But.............its Ruari Quinn so no chance of that. Most over rated politician in Ireland since Mary Harney retired. A total waste of space.

He might make the cabinet if Labour decide to skip two generations.

At the risk of making a sillier point; has the number of places in courses expanded during the boom being cut back eg law, architecture, marketing etc?
