After a barrage of threatening letters being sent out across the county (including to people who already paid and people who are dead) Clare Co. Council have passed a motion instructing Council officials not to send out any more notices until an 'adequate database' is put in place. The council has been acutely embarrassed by the mass mailings coming on top of their major climbdown over threats to third level grants. This is now the second major climbdown in the past few weeks and comes as the CAHWT had intensified their campaign in the county to combat attempts to bring non-payers to court.
The Council has also demanded the disbandment of the LGMA who it blames for the debacle.
