Default Gilmore calls for referendum on same sex marriage

We might as well deal with the issue although it will be divisive. I can almost see the religious right already licking their chops at the prospects of all sorts of wild claims.

Don't believe the 60-70% support in the polls. Much of that is soft and it will slip.

Indeed it has the potential to get into unpleasant territory and the Constitutional Convention will have their work cut out trying to untangle potential issues.

Will we see a government "information" booklet and website?
How many charities will queue up for funding?
Will the Troika lend us another E1.1m?
    Can you define 'referendum'?
Is the SC busy that week?

The status of a single sex family versus the current constitutional position of the family and all the associated mad theories that go hand in hand with it is the main one. That's said it's a real hornets nest and subject to all the moral outrage that can be mustered.

If put to a referendum, should the government stay out of it and just leave interested parties to slog it out?
