Default Gardai children filling primary teaching roles

In our local primary school I counted 7 out of 23 teachers were the daughters of members if the Gardai. I was discussing this with an older neighbour recently who said "this has always been the way, its who you know". I was just wondering if this is a national trend or not?

A lot of Gardai breed with Teachers and Nurses. Females account for about 86% of National Teachers. If you come from one of the "Right Families" its easier to get a job in teaching.

Amazing the Bishops seem to know just who are the right people to serve on Boards of Management, in each Parish, as the Patrons choose the majority of the Boards.

Isn't this just children following their parents into the public service for the "iron clad" pensions and easier bank loans?

Ah no need to bash on the most innocuous of queries, it didn't strike me as the point of the thread anyway.

Many primary teachers are from Cork and Kerry-is there something wrong with this?

Is there any suggestion that interview and appointment process has been anything but proper?
Otherwise it is just a passing observation.

Stupid thread as Garda Children !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you are saying is that Qualified Adult Teachers one of whose parents was a Garda got jobs.........

    Oh great.

Are you really that stupid to think that because someones dad was a Garda they will automatically get a teaching job !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now thats just silly. I have two uncles who were Gaurds, none of their kids are teachers. I was the only teacher in our family.....at one time... and neither parent is a cop, one is a nurse though...

I'd be interested in the total amount who had family in PS and I think you'd find that it's more than just the children of gardai.
