Dont forget the classic 'A little less conversation, a little more Marxism', 'Have I told you lately I've embraced socialism', 'The meanest Commissar in Town', 'No room to rumba in a Lada' 'wear that yoke around your neck, and other classics.

Good at morkeshing too - brought a tried and tested product behind the iron curtain and they thought he was the king.

Great singer with a fantastic voice much like his fellow comrade, Paul Robeson.

Other Western artists toured the Eastern Bloc well before 1989. Iron Maiden went to Poland in 1981 and regularly after that. Queen in Hungary in 1986 and Carlos Santana was a regular in Cuba in 1970s.

Eastern artists came to the West too. Laibach and White Button from Yugoslavia and Jan Hammer, best known for the Miami Vice theme from Czechoslovakia.
