Default Clare super tells people to "put up or shut up"

Chief Super call on public to come forward

Oh yes because if you give evidence against these thugs the long arm of the law will protect you 24/7. In reality if you make a complaint or serve as a witness for the Gardai against these scumbags on our streets the chances are they will be arrested but later released while a file is being prepared for the DPP. While on release they will terrorise and threaten you and where are the Gardai then? Then if the scumbag finally gets to court he will probably be found guilty and his legal rep will give a sob story about this person being a devil for the drink or drugs and this should be taken into consideration. The judge of course will accept this argument and hand down a suspended sentence or community service or a very small jail term and the accused will say sorry it will never happen again, the same thing he had said after being convicted fifty other times in the past. The Clare super would want to get real and start asking for real alternatives to tackling crime like proper drug and alcohol treatment facilities and getting local authorities to put in place diversion programmes for kids in high risk situations. The next time any guard wants to criticise people for not coming forward he should remember the Collins family and many others like them who came forward and paid a very high price because in reality the long arm of the law does not reach very far.

Primitive people by the sound of things.

Isn't Willie O'Dea a consistent poll topper down there?

You know, the guy with the tache and the gun, who just loves those windbags with the supermarket bag faces..

I don't care what he really means, this attitude that is creeping into this site that everybody outside Dublin being "primitive" or a gombeen is just not acceptable.

Dublin people kept Bertie Ahern and several others like him in power for many years, and are in no position to cast stones in anyones direction. The only thing he is showing by mentioning Willie O'Dea is his own ignorance.

You would want to be mad to put your life on the line by giving evidence against those thugs.
Less Gardai on duty, Garda Stations closing down, scarcity of Garda cars now. Who would bother now,
    Too dangerous.

It's the politicans that are failing us, they have allowed a small hardcore of liberals, "human rights" activists and legal eagles to set the agenda in the criminal justice system. If the young guards throw in the towel we will go back to the early 90's very quickly.

Daily on the joe duffy show now stories are recounted of criminal acts up and down the country, where people are brought before the courts and given derisory punishments or bail on serious charges.

When will the politicans get off their holes ?

The good people of Clare managed to get up of their holes to campaign against........ parts of Clare being given to Limerick!!! Not against anything that has real implications for people like crime, social services, education; but instead chose to crib about the borders of Limerick City being updated to reflect the realities on the ground, that of Limerick City already de facto gobbling up bits of Clare. What a bunch of clowns!
