Default Labour MEP praises Kevin "I can't count" Cardiff

Kevin Cardiff faces MEPs in Brussels - RT News

I think this deserves its own thread.

RTE's Drive Time just played a clip of Labour MEP Prionsias De Rossa heaping praise on the Governments nominee to the European Court of Auditors and telling members to ignore any negative emails which were motivated by party politics.

The clip isn't available on the website yet.

Why is that has De Rossa is so willing to brown nose this guy?

It's not like Cardiff knows something that could embarrass someone if revealed, is it?

It's amazing the level of praise he seems to be giving Cardiff. The Journal ran a live blog on the interview and reported the following as being said at the time.

Prionsias De Rossa, Labour, Dublin: I should mention that I’m pleased the government is offering a person of “such stature in Ireland” – “of such integrity and qualifications in the job of auditor.”

I’m impressed by the openness you’re showing here today, says De Rossa, flanked by Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness. I’d urge members not to pay attention to emails driven by party political considerations, rather than considerations of fact.
    It was quite jaw dropping.

Maybe he has evidence that Prionsias was a member of a dodgy Marxist party with a secret military wing and has thru lies and libel passed himself off as a democrat

Kevin Cardiff never said "I ca't count".

But if he said "I can count", or if he said "I can predict a property bubble going sour" we would all be rolling around laffin'.

Anyway, Prionsias de Bossa wants Comrade Cardiff as our man in the EU hierarchy for auditting the EU accounts, and everybody else is supposed to get into line.
Coveney's ambition is the be Ireland's next EU Commissar and Ireland will pay a price as he builds his CV to position himself sufficiently loyal to the nEU empire.

Why is De Rossa so willing to brown-nose this guy? Here is the reason: For Proinnsias De Rossa the European Union is literally -- quite literally -- afforded religious-type adoration. Throughout his career De Rossa first jettisoned republicanism, before in the early nineties discarding socialism. At this stage in his career the one remaining viewpoint he has ever held for any sustained period of time is fervent EU-patriotism. He believes the EU and its institutions are beyond criticism. This is where Cardiff comes in. At a time when our old friend Lucinda Creighton is trying to persuade the EU of our 'commitment to Europe', the possibility that our nominee to a senior auditing position being vetoed on the basis of his inability to audit competently would prove yet another diplomatic embarrassment for the country and possibly undermine our attempts to show a 'willingness to engage', or that place remains 'at the heart of Europe'. Hence De Rossa's bizarre attempts to defend a disgraced, incompetent, over-paid civil servant who is well overdue being put out to golf-club pasture.

Ah, surely not, what an absurd suggestion. What on earth could there possibly be in De Rossas past that could be source of embarrasment to him today?

Even the worst scandal would not embarrass Prionsias de Rossa.

We are talking about the bo11ox who eventually only apologised "as Gaeilge" in the Dail for state jobs being advertised in a Stickie internal handout, relating to the Department where he was Minister.

    De Rossa has no shame.
