Vatican Radio are reporting this morning that Papal Nuncio Giuseppe Leanza is being recalled back to the Vatican for "consultations" in the aftermath of the Cloyne Report.

It follows the Taoiseach's widely reported (here and internationally) denunciation of the church and the Tanaiste's demand that the Vatican respond by the end of the month to criticism in the Cloyne report of the catholic church's handling of clerical sex abuse.

Really, who cares? Anyone expecting explanations from Rome really is naive.

If you don't care, don't comment.

Good riddance. If only our government would tell Ratzinger not to bother to send anyone back to replace him

    papal nuncio ?
    Urban Dictionary: nonce
How about gender-balance in immigration into ireland ? Is it currently 40 blokes arriving for every 1 woman arriving on these shores ?

Might be a good idea if the Vatican decide to do some transferring by moving Leanza somewhere else and presenting a new face that the state quietly moves to make sure that the papal nuncio is not automatically the Head of the Diplomatic Corps any longer.

They will try some attempt at low cost mollification but I wouldn't like to see a focus on Leanza as a person being shifted because thats not where the problem lies.

Actually I'd say its long past time that a few diplomatic signals were sent and removing the papal nuncio as head of the DC would be a good one.

When he claimed diplomatic immunity he clearly defined himself as the ambassador of a foreign state, something the RCC does not want acknowledged as the next step was expulsion. The Vatican have simply pre-empted this by bringing him back first? He may even be changed now.

What are teh diplomatic link Ireland has with this Vatican State? Are they in anyway beneficial to Ireland? I'd imagine we don't trade with them on any level

Money flows outward from Ireland to the Vatican, bullshyte floats back in it seems.
