Default Martin announces new FF frontbench - again

FF leader Micheal Martin has just announced his new frontbench.

Martin unveils second FF front bench in ten weeks · TheJournal

    * Leader and Spokesperson on Northern Ireland: Micheál Martin TD
    * Deputy Leader and Spokesperson on Finance: Brian Lenihan TD
    * Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Financial Sector Reform: Michael McGrath TD
    * Spokesperson on Public Sector Reform: Sean Fleming TD
    * Spokesperson on Education and Skills: Brendan Smith TD
    * Spokesperson on Social Protection: Barry Cowen TD
    * Spokesperson on Environment, Community and Local Government: Niall Collins TD
    * Spokesperson on Children: Charlie McConalogue TD
    * Spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Defence: Dara Calleary TD
    * Spokesperson on Health: Billy Kelleher TD
    * Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Timmy Dooley TD
    * Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources: Eamon Ó Cuiv TD
    * Spokesperson on Agriculture and Food: Michael Moynihan TD
    * Spokesperson on Arts and Heritage: Robert Troy TD
    * Spokesperson on Marine and Fisheries: John Browne TD
    * Spokesperson on Horticulture and Rural Affairs: Seamus Kirk TD
    * Spokesperson on Housing, Planning and Gaeltacht Affairs: Micheal Kitt TD
    * Spokesperson on Small Business Regulatory Framework: John McGuinness TD (also Fianna Fáil nominee for Chair of the Public Accounts Committee)
    * Legal Adviser: Cllr Jim O’Callaghan
Even Biffo Beag has got a gig - shadowing Joan Burton in Social Protection. Bet Joanie is worried - just shows the paucity of talent available to MM.

IMHO, the most intresting appointment/nomination is John McGuinness as Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

McGuinness has always talked a good game - now's the chance to prove he can hurl like the rest of his countymen on the big pitch.

There must be one for everyone in the audience ? I see wonder boy Calleary is downgraged to Justice and Defence. Did he not make room for those outside the party like Averil Power, Marc McSharry, Tom Byrne etc as he did before

I don't see Willie O'Dea there, I presume he's just milking the taxpayer for a final term at this at this stage anyway so couldn't be arsed. Is there any other TD not on the list.

So that must in part damn in part the prospects of the favoured Seanad 10 as none of them will make the front bench, had he wanted until the Seanad election was over some of them could have appealed for votes on the basis that as front bench members they might be able to assist local cllrs with highlight issue X or topic Y. Now that rug is pulled from under them completely.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote. http://www.danielsullivan.ie/blog/

They will have to draft in some councillors to fill up the gaps

I would hardly call Justice a downgrade - it's one of the most important departments in government.

After Finance and Foreign Affairs, Justice is the next most important role in Cabinet.

And with Defence thrown in now - which I disagree with - it has even more clout. Shatter now has control over all the security and intelligence apparatus in the State.

It's only when you see the full list of their remaining TDs that you realise just how pathetic a line-up they've been left with.

If he is as effective in the role as he is at talking himself up then it will be a wise and sensible appointment - but that is a very bif if...
