Default British interference in Irish elections? Tonight's FF PPB

Charlie Bird on RTÉ One News is reporting that tonight's party political broadcast will include footage of George Mitchell, Bill Clinton and Tony Blair praising Bertie Ahern.

Do posters think that it is appropriate - whatever about the others - for a serving British Prime Minister to endorse one particular candidate for taoiseach in an Irish general election?

Will people notice or care? All it does is enforce how useless Bertie has been at domestic issues. Funny how there are no pictures of Bertie talking to nurses or teachers or guards.

Angela Merkel, leader of one of FG's sister parties in the EPP, endorsed Kenny at a party meeting (the Ard Fheis). There's a world of difference between that and appearing on a party political broadcast.
"So how are things at the Campaign for the Freedom of Information, by the way?" "Sorry, I can't talk about that"

Well, if Enda were to make it as taoiseach he'd have a 1,000 fewer gardai (15 under the rainbow) to be pictured with than if FF (16,000 gardai) were in Govt.

As for the FF PPB - Blair and Clinton recognise how much Bertie Ahern has achieved in securing peace & prosperity on this island - something Enda has neither the grace nor the sense to acknowledge or accept.

Instead he and FG copy Berlusconi's campaign and look for Angela Merkel's endorsement - - - FG looking to Italy and Germany for support and inspiration...... Gen O'Duffy lives!!!

FF seem to have changed their tune on "foreign interference"

"External endorsements are hardly the way to convince the electorate it's the right party for them"

    - spokeswoman for the Taoiseach, April 2nd

"The Irish people have a very deep rooted sense of not being told what to do by foreign powers. I hope that if Enda Kenny has any understanding of the Irish people, he will ask her [Merkel] to withdraw that letter. What it does show is a massive inferiority complex that a party feels they have to get endorsements from people in other countries."

    - Seán Fleming TD, April 2nd

"My message for her [Merkel] would be: 'stick to your politics in Germany'. What does she know about the ins and outs of politics here or what's best for the Irish people?"

    - Martin Brady TD, April 2nd

    Desperate times, and all that.......
"The IRA Army Council have a history of telling the truth. If they say they didn't do it, then I believe them" - Bertie Ahern, speaking after the murder of Det. Garda Jerry McCabe

In 1997, Bill Clinton appeared on a FG election broadcast. So less of the hypocracy.

All the guys who took part knew what it would be used for and all Im sure would have had the ability to look at it and sign off on it.

FF are entitled to talk about our achievements - Peace on this island is the most important achievement
