    Default Cabinet reshuffle?

RTE and IT are both reporting speculation that Cowen may be considering a reshuffle, replacing retiring TDs. Would he get rid of Hanafin too? I presume he'd replace them with some of the young turks? FF Nua in place before the election. If it's true a reshuffle doesn't sound like a Taoiseach with a March election in mind.

RTE: Greens want election by end of March

Meanwhile, speculation is mounting in political circles tonight that the Taoiseach may be considering a number of new appointments to Cabinet, in addition to filling the post left vacant by Mr Martin's resignation.
It is thought Ministers who are not contesting the general election could be asked to resign, in order to make room for a number of new appointments.
Three Ministers - Tony Killeen, Noel Dempsey and Dermot Ahern - have said they will not seek re-election, while Health Minister Mary Harney has not said whether or not she will run.

He'd have some balls to do this, but then again, it's Cowen. Nothing surprises me anymore.

There will be a need for the Dáil to approve any new members of the Government appointed from the junior ranks or the backbenches.

Will Lowry or JHR play ball? Will the Greens?

Hanafin hadn't the guts to resign after voting against Cowen and I don't think he has the guts to sack her. That woman hasn't a shred of decency and is a gross irritant.
It's a bit too late in the day now to cut out all the dead wood. Ahern and Dempsey still need the cars to get around. Wonder how Micheal Martin is going to get around now?
