Default Cowen says Gov has no plans to change budget day from Dec 7th

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen has just told the Dail that the Government has no plans to change the date of the budget, which is scheduled to take place on December 7th.

The Taoiseach was answering the question by the Labour Leader Eamon Gilmore in the Dáil moments ago.

Speculation was mounting last week that the budget may be rescheduled for some time in the middle of this month. The Irish Times Economics Editor Dan O'Brien told Newstalk last week that his sources led him to believe that this was very likely.

Why not bring it forward and get it over and done with? Surely the longer the wait the worse off we are on the international stage?

mmm - don't see the sense of bringing out a detailed comprehensive 4 year budget covering all sources of revenue and expenditure and then 2 weeks later going through a detailed comprehensive 1 year budget. Seems daft - why not do the whole lot in one go - announce the 4 year plan, go into more detail on the numbers and plans for 2011 (the "budget") and do it all at the end of Nov.

Seems to me to be a case of not stopping and thinking for a second.

The Green Party Chairman, Dan Boyle, has indicated that the date of the Budget may change.
Who is in charge of this farce?

Sounds like either the BIFF is lying (probable) or Bozo hasn't bothered to tell him about the change in the budget date (possible).

    +1

If true it is utter madness and does not instil confidence.

Perhaps he thinks it is giving the government a second chance to tweak it a bit if the markets react negatively. Can't be that. This does not make sense.
