One of the British army units involved was the 10th Irish division which had earlier suffered terrible casualties at gallipoli. The Palestine campaign became controversial because it diverted reinforcements from the important western front. In 1918 many batalions from the 10th Irish division had to be rushed back to France to stop a huge German offensive which had caused huge British casualties.
