Default All-Irish naming policy voted on in Fingal

    Ard Eadrad, Mulhuddart

In the last year the majority of councillors in Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council have voted to name all new residential developments in Irish in their new City/County Developments Plans as is policy in Galway City, Navan and Shannon.

Cian O'Callaghan from Labour in Fingal put down the same motion recently in Fingal but it was not accepted. I think that manager did not agree with the proposal. This happened in Dublin City Council as well though where the managed changed the motion passed without informing councillors.

Anyway, there was no lobbying done of councillors in Fingal. By the time the next County Development Plan is getting debated Coláiste Ghlór na Mara should be up and running in Balbriggan and Irish will be stronger in the area. Thankfully unlike Dublin City and South Dublin County Council there are huge tracts of Fingal not built on so if the policy comes in here it will have a great effect/affect over time.

    Well that is just great.
In the depths of an economic depression elected officials start naming every place in an incomprehensible language that nobody except some inbred peasant in the Kerry hills can speak?
Bad enough that millions of tax payer's money is wasted on publishing official publications in English and an absurd incoherent language that sounds like the speaker is gurgling phlegm.

More ramming a language that most people don't speak down our throats by our betters. So much for a "free" society. This will do nothing to help the language and will only increase the public's antipathy towards it.

more politically correct BS me thinks, when we we focus on the things that matter and not on a dead language that 99.99% of the populous either never use

This will depress further house prices in the area. Nobody will buy a house on a road with an Irish name due to past associations with council estates.

Thats bizarre. Do they really prefer to pretend they are living in the South of England?
