Default Media coverage of next GE - difficult!

Mention of RTÉ's coverage of the 2009 local elections in another thread brings to mind the difficult job that will face media in covering the next general election.

Given the opinion polls over the last year or so and the lack of certainty over all but a few "safe" seats it's going to be interesting to say the least. There may be little point referring to the results of the 2007 general election. To coin a phrase, "all's changed, a terrible beauty is born" (well not quite yet).

Dead certs may be dead in the water, dark horses may dazzle and surprise or it may of course all be an illusion.

Any thoughts on how such an election can be covered with any possible level of reasonable predictions?

By using the barely numerate and incredibly skewed polls run by every gombeen local advertising rag up and down the country. It should be fun.
