Default 62% of Limerick births outside of marriage

New statistics from the CSO for the first quarter of 2010 show a nationwide drop of 1.3% in the number of births compared to the same period last year. 34% of these were outside marriage.

The highest proportion of births outside wedlock was in Limerick, with a whopping 62%. Given the social problems already in existence in that city, does this statistic point to possibly more difficulties in the future?

Wonder if there is any connection with the high drug use and breakdown in society in Limerick. No doubt the residents liberals around here will continue to spout their PC rubbish and will continue to fail to see the consequences of their cherish liberal political correctness gone mad.

Can only remember been in Limerick once. Will go for weekends to many parts of the country including the cities. Have never consciously decided Limerick is a place to avoid but must surely have been influenced by its reputation. In recent years the media has portrayed Limerick as the Harlem of Ireland. The figure for births outside marriage does tell a story of a city at breaking point. Does anyone know Limerick well enough to treat with contempt its bad reputation ?

Hardly suprising knowing the vermin ridden pest holes in that cursed city.
If the statistics were that 63% of limerick births were outside humanity i would be suprised but not shocked.

That Limerick has a higher out-of-wedlock birth rate than anywhere else suggests nothing in and of itself - it could simply mean that Limerick is the most advanced city in the country in terms of its interpretation of the modern family. But layered with other data - number of single mothers, number of single mothers from lower socio-economic groups, number of children born to unemployed mothers or couples - it could signify something.

In [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legalized_abortion_and_crime_effect"]Legalized abortion and crime effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame], economist Steven Levitt argued that the legalization of abortion in New York after Roe vs Wade (1973) led directly to the reduction in crime in the late 1990s. He argued, effectively, that lower class families were more likely to avail of abortion, and that unwanted babies from lower social classes were more likely to end up criminals than those from other origins, and that therefore the effect of the ruling was to reduce the potential pool of criminals, and by extension the actual number of criminals reaching peak criminal age of late teens by the end of the 1990s - and therefore the crime rate would be reduced.

That the guy behind Freakonomics? If so what he says about abortion and crime rates makes a lot of sense.

Any idea on the numbers of Limerick mothers who actually know who the father is?

Anybody that has more than 2 children, should be told that only their first two children are entitled to children's allowance.
If you can't afford them, don't have them. Simple.
