There is a lot of talk about incompetence, waste of resources, inflated egos and sense of entitlement in our government. Some say that we'd be better being run by the EU (some say we already are).
Now, while many EU member nations tighten their belts the EU budget has gone up and, thanks to Lisbon, more money is tasted on "administration" than ever before.
But that's not all. We're also paying for holidays for MEPs and their staff too. Except they're called "study breaks" because that sounds better.
MEPs take £350,000 'study break' to Madeira - TelegraphSome 250 MEPs, 80 parliamentary assistants and 70 civil servants working for EPP took off on Tuesday to the holiday island for a three-day trip.
Rooms have been reserved at two five-star hotels on the island, the Pestana Carlton and the Pestana Casino.
The EPP has paid for the trip out of what is known as "line 400" of the EU budget which is financed by taxpayers and can be claimed by political groups in the European Parliament.
