    Default Relatively painless budget

Do we have no balls in Government?

    Eliminate travel tax
    Cut airport charges
Keep tolls as they are - no further costs to business
    Reduce commercial rates by 5%
Eliminate employers PRSI for new jobs created - two years

    Pension relief restricted to 30%
    Cut all overtime in PS
Cut all quango boards by 40%
Cut all fees to directors on these boards by 40%
    Reduce paye allowance by €330
    Reduce tax band to €35,000
Increase standard rate tax by 2%
    Leave EXCISE duty alone
Reduce childrens allowances by €10 per child
Cut HSE administration staff by 10,000

    Easy

I keep getting the feeling that the Government are following an accounting exercise of just cuts, like you would get from a Junior Cert student, rather than following an economic exercise where properly placed cuts coupled with investments would be the way to go.....

Even watching prime time the other night with T2 €1.3 billion needing to get repaid they somehow think that it will be repaid by charging a fewer number of people using the airport extra taxes

A blindman could see that they need more people using the airport........and the way to do this is lower taxes & charges.

We are snookered as we have a Dept of Finance alsolutely clueless without necessary business experience. A bunch of civil servants will save the economy. Not on your nellie.

People with the knowledge of Patrick Neary, Roddy Molloy and their like. HO HO HO

We are considering an increase in VAT & Excise.

How the HELL will that encourage people to spend more

You need to cut VAT to encourage extra spending.

You also need the Revenue to contribute to the budget. The biggest tax defaulters always leave huge VAT bills behind. Maybe a system where VAT registered businesses do not charge each other VAT.

Relatively pain free....abolish all quangos, no redundancy payments required. Decide which quangos were actually required, get all the civil/public servants sitting on their holes doing little (not their fault) but supporting the management pyramid and get them to do this work.
