Taken from todays paper:
Democratic deficit - An election has become unavoidable | Irish Examiner
A few choice quotes:
"However, EU Commissioner Olli Rehn warned that no tax changes should be excluded from plans to get the deficit to 3% of GDP within four years.
If this vital, job-generating advantage is lost because of incompetence, delay and cowardice then FF truly deserves the oblivion the polls predict for them."
Now, I have posted many times about my annoyance at people saying FF have no mandate (they do have one, it was given to them in 2007). However, the article successfully points out they do not have a mandate to implement a 4 year budget as it will go well past 2012:
"Nevertheless, that urgency does not give Mr Cowen the authority to initiate such a generation-defining programme that will run long after he has taken his place in the opposition backbenches."
