In the UK, the 3 main parties are led by MPs first elected in 2001/05. In the US Obama managed to become President after 2 years service in the Senate. Yet here whenever there is talk of FF replacing Cowen or FG dumping Kenny, the same tired and long serving old names are trotted out as putative replacements (Martin, Lenihan, Ahern et al in FF, Bruton in FG). Are there not any younger politicians ready and able to take on leadership roles in Irish politics and to challenge the lazy Leinster House consensus that you have to serve your time loyally and dutifully before you do so?
