Default Cowen aims to create 300,000 jobs. Will ceate new super quango

    Lot of wishful thinking here..

Taoiseach Brian Cowen is to launch a five-year overseas investment plan later today aimed at creating up to 300,000 jobs.

The Government said this is the first integrated strategy that will promote overseas investment, foreign trade and tourism.

The plan aims to boost exports by a third and will involve the establishment of a Foreign Trade Council bringing together all relevant agencies to help implement it.

In a statement last night, the Government said the strategy could create over 150,000 direct jobs in manufacturing, tourism and internationally trading services.

It said the plan could create another 150,000 jobs in spin-off positions, as well as increasing the number of overseas visitors to Ireland to 8m.

There'll be a lot of people with nothing to do then in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation. 150,000 jobs just like that as if they were misplaced behind the sofa...

No idea what he is on about. A super quango is all I can see. The thought of Cowen creating anything is farcical, bar a job as one of a team of gag writers for Jay Leno.

Cowan and O'Keeffe are amazing men. In two weeks they are able to project 300,000 jobs. They must be using the computers Batt bought for the schools!!

Pity they didn't lend them to Lenny. In two years he hasn't been able to figure out how much the banks will cost.

Can we now expect a phantom wave of immigration to fill all these imaginary jobs while there is a steady wave of real emigration for those who cannot find any real jobs--more of the turning a corner ************************************************ that is so regularly spouted by Lenny
