Default No new council member for Arklow UDC

A Labour party member of Arklow council resigned in April and the position has not been filled as it is believed that the labour party can't find anyone to take the position. Anyone heard anything on the ground about this.

There's a big story going round Arklow since May that Labour were trying to find a woman for the vacant post, I believe they contacted several women for the post and they turned it down. However, I believe they did get a woman to come in under their new policy" by way of the "selection committee!..
Seemingly she was recruited especially for the position, don't know all the details, but there seems to be a bit of trouble over the whole episode. some of the committee members in the branch have resigned as they were not in agreement with the new policy of Labour. you might get more details from Labour Party Arklow FB.... cheers

It would seem the entire committee of the Arklow branch have resigned from the party over the new selection procedures.

Any ramifications for the General Election? Iíve never heard any ringing endorsement of Kelly's candidacy from HQ. The silence is deafening.

If Kelly is not selected ,will Kavanagh hoover up the Arklow vote, as he used to work there?

Since last General Election and the Local Elections 2009 Kelly's star is on the ground. Will make no difference if he runs in next GE

The current crisis in the Arklow branch can't be good for Nicky Kelly. He will need as many endorsements as possible to see off the challenge from Kavanagh.

By the looks of it, it seems a shrewed move by Labour, smoke out the Committee and get rid of Kelly, if thats the way they are operating then they don't get the blame! Igenious move!

Kelly is believed to be having money problems at present and would not be able to fund a campaign even if he was on the ticket
