    Numbers of Permission granted

    Q2 2010 - 4,675

    Q2 2007 - 17,311

    Given what we were granting back then, it's not a bad thing necessarily but jaysus talk about evidence of a bubble!!!

    They seem to have misreported the percentage of one-offs. The CSO say 24% but Table 4 says 42%. In Q2 2006 that was 31%.
    We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

    Ah right my bad. They should really adjust that table to read all units first and then subdivide it...

    Given that this was a one-off bubble one presumes that the planning staff in the vast myriad of local authorities were taken on as contract staff over this period.
    Otherwise what are they doing now?
    Acting as litter or dog wardens?

    Let go in many cases. The bubble caused a massive shortage in public sector planning - be it in Councils or in ABP - leading to huge delays in the process that we are all familiar with. While the sector increased massively since 1996 it never met it's needs through the boom and was all about Development Control and not about Planning. Hopefully those in LAs now can concentrate more on forward planning

    The major increase in planners in the bubble was in the private sector where 80% of consultancies in existence in 2007 were created post 1995. This represented a 500% increase in private sector planners from 50 to 300 persons. This sector is utterly FUBARed now like Architecture and Construction - same industry after all....

    Extra income for local FF politicians will be absolutely hammered, not to mind chances of vote-gathering, if land is rezoned back to agri or whatever there will be fun and games with the developer to get backthe brown envelope, or maybe they will charge to retain PPs which may have the affect of keeping lenders at bay.

    the new planning Act allows for the extension of PP due to financial reasons.
