Default McAleese getting involved in politics

    From the Belfast Telegraph,

"Irish President Mary McAleese has launched an unprecedented attack on the Republicís lawyers, economists and regulators for their role in the financial crisis.

And she made it clear she feels the light-touch regulation espoused by the Irish government is to blame for the economic collapse which has resulted in tens of thousands of people in mortgage arrears.

Her comments are all the more hard-hitting because it is highly-unusual for a President to pass such concise and critical judgment on a major political issue while in office".

This is not the first time she has spoken on political issues when it is a clear rule that the president does not.
She should resign or otherwise keep her mouth shut.

Political in that she avoids mentioning ahern and cowen? the two people who actually caused the crisis. Or Lenihan the man making it expedentially worse?

    Who voted her in?
    Oh yeah - no one.

    .
No it's not, she is head of state and an intelligent woman who is entitled to speak her mind.
She always has, why be fake and act like a plastic head?
Better to have someone who has an opinion and might even put their foot in it once and a while than have someone who is paraded around like a speechless doll.

It only seems unusual for the Unionist journalist who probably thinks that QE2's head of state roll is normal, ie. having no opinion and basically being trusted with nothing other than waving.

What do you want, another hypocrite to tell Cowen what a great job he is doing, It should never be wrong to tell the truth.

This is a woman who has worked hard to take the guns off Loyalist paramilitaries and succeeded.
Her opinion obviously matters and fair play to her for voicing her concerns.

Mary Robinson was also very outspoken - get used to it.
She broke the mould and McAleese is rightfully continuing on the role in a way it should be done.
The Irish President should not mirror the British monarch.

Ireland doesn't have a Queen, it has an elected person from a political background as president who shouldn't be censored and should be as entitled to speak her mind as any other citizen.

If you really want someone to stand there and say nothing there are plenty of unused manikans in the shops the bankers closed , why not elect one?
You could put a nice dress on it and lots of lewlerry, drag it around in a gold carriage and make it wave once and a while.

Well McAleese wasn't elected because she was apolitical, she was elected becuase of who she is and will be elected again because of who she is.

Ahern could be presient, he could travel the world selling plastic leprachauns to stupid foreigners and make a fortune giving speeches alongside his mate Tony.
Think of the money he'd make, while never having to say anything negative about his banker firends because it might upset certain sections of the public who want him to be a plastic figure head - just like the Queen who is not 'highly-unusual' atall, unlike McAleese who must look like a freak for merely speaking!

If she wants to comment on something, then she should.
