Default Rangel Charged with ethics violations.

As expected Charlie Rangel has been charged (Congressional equivalent of an indictment) with multiple ethics violations. An ally of Obama and powerful Democrat. Under investigation for a while it has just been verified that he will be charged.

He is still technically chair, he stepped aside for the duration of the investigation and one assumes that this will remain as long as he is being charged.

I seem to recall another Ways & Means chairman ( Rostenkowski ) having breached ethics legislation. He ended up losing his seat to a Republican unknown in the Democratic wipeout of '94

Rangel has held his seat for 40 years but is facing his most difficult race in years. It is not inconceivable that he loose his seat this November.

Rangel represents Harlem though? Hard to see a GOP breakthrough here. Rostenkowski's district was different, more blue collar/white in Chicago

True, however it would have been a gift to his primary challenger. The prospect of a televised trial in front of his congressional peers when he should be out shaking hands and asking for votes is not good though.

    Good God this frigging woman:

Pelosi considering rewriting ethics rules - TheHill.com

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has privately indicated she is willing to rewrite some of the ethics rules that House Democrats implemented two years ago.

Pelosi late last month met with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) about the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), which was created to bolster the ethics of the lower chamber.
Way to undermine to process you idiot.

Luke (young son of the late Tim) Russet asked Rangel if he was afraid of loosing his seat. Rangel just blew him off telling him that it was a stupid question and that the young reporter was trying to make a name for himself. Obviously Rangel had no idea who Russet is, he is making a name in his own right with MSNBC. Rangel is an obnoxious *************************.

This guy just can't lose. The poster boy for term limits, a democratic congressman from Harlem with over 40 years in Congress. Despite redistricting in which NY lost two congressional seats and Rangel picked up an a new largely Dominican area ( one of his opponents was Dominican), his censure by Congress and the refusal of former President Clinton and current President Obama to endorse him, he still won the Democratic Congressional primary.
