Default How POLITICS.IE brought down Willie O'Dea.

Below is a very rough timeline of the Willie O’Dea affidavit story as it appeared on politics.ie. Largely ignored by the national media (the Mail excepted), the story was raised, bumped, updated and persisted by a number of posters on politics.ie.

It was very much a collaborative effort, involving posters who clearly had differing backgrounds, locations and motives (for anyone who has read the Wisdom of Crowds it had all the best aspects to be a successful campaign).

D’tinternet, and this site in particular, can make a difference in shaping political events, but one of the key lessons I realised from this story and others is was how many politicians read informative anonymous emails but do not respond to them (which is probably good policy).

There are also a number of commentators, journos and politicians who read this site regularly, even if they (sensibly) keep their identity hidden (perhaps many do not join – a good reason of itself to allow open access).

Please highlight any other contributions to this story on the website, or any post and posters left out which shaped this story.

and then to add insult to injury

The story is not over yet, as a garda investigation into perjury has begun. This has already being commented on by the Garda Commissioner (and if no action is taken an application to the Garda Ombudsman is possible).

So the last question is: who’s next?

well done politics.ie. It has made you and put you on the map (collectively). You are not to be trifled with.
You'd think Kenny committed Treason and brought in IMF. Cowen had all in stitches in Galway at 3.30a.m.but he was "not impaired" -DD Power. FF=Publican páirtí an IMF.

Most of what you're linked to are posters talking about what journalists or the courts have researched/written/said. In what way did the board affect the story? At all? It seems like you'd take credit for being in the away crowd when Ireland win in the football as well...

Posters on p.ie broke stroy in March, 2009 and it was much discussed before the Mail, "broke" the strory on the 1st November, 2009 or when the Times first reported on it (late Jan/early feb 2010 - in its Seanad report!!!!).

    Try reading the links.

    Very good.........

And some of the posters who pushed that story on this site no longer post here. Bit like Charlie Haughey taking the Credit for Stephen Roche...

Posters didn't "break" the story. They posted a link to the Limerick Leader article that broke the story. Look it's right there. In your very first link. You're doing an immense disservice to the work the Limerick Leader journalists have done on this. I don't know who Islands is, I'm sure he's wonderful, but unless he's secretly Mike Dwayne, he didn't break a single thing.

I posted a thread from the Economist about Lady Ashton a couple of days ago. Did I break that story too? You're one of those people that memorises movie lines then tries to pass them off as your own aren't you?

A rather senior person who posts on P.ie contacted me to let me know that it was widely regarded in political circles (on either side of the floor of the Dáil) that it was the level of attention and interest in this story by the users of Politics.ie that ultimately resulted in Willie O'Dea going.

I can't take the credit (and bloody won't, I keep seeing Willie O'Dea walking around town!) - but the excellent work of the members of this site is wot dunnit.

With regards one particular member, unfortunately, he's not here anymore, but he's elsewhere as deluded and mad as ever - as I said before, when he was good he was GREAT, but there was too much convulsive personal attacks, smears and lies that caused more problems than anything the great stuff he did would forgive. It's a shame, but he continues to tell the most stunning of lies elsewhere.
