Default Christians in lands across Middle East face uncertain time this Christmas

Across the Middle East, a Christian population that stood at 20 per cent a century ago has now sunk to under five per cent. Yet the rise of radical Islam is not the only factor. In the Occupied Territories, Christians suffer alongside Muslims from Israeli policies, most recently the new "security wall".

There really should be a land in the Middle East for Arab Christians to have safety and sanctity, Lebanon used to be an example.

The poor shepherds and wisemen are having an awful time trying to get to see the Christ child after that big wall was put in their way at Bethlehem...

The invasion of Iraq and U.S attitudes and behaviour post 11/9 is the real cause of woes for Christians in the Middle East.

The saddest thing about this, is that American Evangelical churches raise massive funds to aid Israel, little suspecting that it is used to cause suffering to Christians as well as Muslims.

Well, not really. Lebanon was gerrymandered to create a state which had an artificial Christian majority, but now they are only about 30% of the population (hard to say for sure because the Lebanese refuse to do a census, probably for fear of upsetting the sectarian system which gives disproportionate power to Christians and, to some extent, Sunni Muslims). It wasn't so much a 'tolerant' state as one where Christians were - and still are - priviliged due to their religion.

Probably the best Middle Eastern country to be a Christian is the much-maligned Syria. This article, although 3 years old, explains why:

Sumerians Look On In Confusion As God Creates World

    December 15, 2009 | Issue 45•51

Members of the earth's earliest known civilization, the Sumerians, looked on in shock and confusion some 6,000 years ago as God, the Lord Almighty, created Heaven and Earth.

According to recently excavated clay tablets inscribed with cuneiform script, thousands of Sumerians—the first humans to establish systems of writing, agriculture, and government—were working on their sophisticated irrigation systems when the Father of All Creation reached down from the ether and blew the divine spirit of life into their thriving civilization.

Change " little suspecting " to little caring " and you'll have it nailed.
There are a zillion splits in the american evangelical churches and the Raptures and Christion Zionists are waaaay outside the mainstream. Like the wee frees !!

For example.... this is supported by the press button b's in the U.S.

Yeah history began when the US entered Iraq...sigh...

...because Saudi Arabia was always a beacon of freedom and democratic choice to the world even before that? They still won't allow the construction of any cathedrals in the 'Kingdom' - and then we entertain the whines of the liberals when they complain about minarets in Switzerland
