    Default Compensate the Magdalene Women

Mannix Flynn says on the VB Show that Magdalene Women will not be allowed to go the the Redress Board.

These women were illegally deprived of their liberty and enslaved.

What possible justification can there be for not compensating them in full for the damages they suffered ?

None. But thanks to our cowardly and spineless government, well...

They should also sue the Gardaí who collaborated with the Sisters by capturing girls who had escaped from the laundries.

I can't understand how they've got away with this. Is it because there's no such thing as class action in Irish law ? Is that correct ?

A good class action against the Orders and the State should give them a decent and secure old age.

Those women deserve compensation - but in this country only the wrong doers get protected.

A recent episode of Waking the Dead revolved around a magdalene laundry so it's not just in this country that people are aware of the brutality and injustice meted out to those women.

They deserve compensation. Something must be done to help them.

They shouldn't have to be grilled and interrogated like the victims of sexual abuse were: just paid the money they should have been paid, index-linked, plus compensation for loss of liberty.

    +1
Also the mental torture due to what they experienced cannot be compensated for in monetary terms. It's a disgrace that we are still ignoring them.

Investigate and charge any suspect still alive; if convicted, imprison and bill the Order or the diocese for the cost of imprisonment. Take all of the order's property, liquidate it, and use it for redress. These people who perpetrated class-war and state sanctioned slavery must be face the consquences.
