Default Dublin Bus to scrap 90 and 91 from Heuston

Some bad news emerging for rail commuters. Some commuters got a leaflet yesterday stating that Dublin Bus planned to discontinue the 90 and 91 services from Heuston to the City Centre from next Monday. I spoke to Dublin Bus a couple of times during the day, and the position is that they are withdrawing both services as part of cost-cutting. There is a temporary delay in introducing this because of the ongoing talks with their drivers, but this won't affect the decision.

I think this is a disgrace. The services are used by thousands of commuters along the Kildare route, and they will now have to pile on to the already overcrowded red line Luas and the remaining 92 bus. This will greatly reduce flexibility, passenger comfort and access to the City Centre.

It's amazing that this busy route is being withdrawn to save cost. It seems pretty clear that the commuters are being squeezed out because Dublin Bus couldn't get enough out of Irish Rail to cover the cost of those using combined tickets.

It also comes on top of dropping passenger numbers, price rises and pay-parking - you'd swear they didn't want people using public transport.

I'm involved with the Kildare Rail Users Group, and I've been in touch with the other groups to see if we can find a co-ordinated repsonse. If you want to get involved, let me know.

This is crazy. At peak times, this bus was always very busy to and from Heuston.

I haven't been on it for a few years, but I would imagine this hasn't changed. Yes, it tracks the same route as the Luas - but this is always mobbed at peak times as well

More evidence of the Greens' commitment to public transport......

Just being personally selfish here, but does that mean the 92 is being retained?

Yup - the Dublin Bus rep told me that the 92 will be retained but the others will be gone in a few weeks.

im not surprised.

if anything was going to go its was them as the facility to use the luas was there instead.

i agree with what you said and i pass heuston station every morning on the 78 and see how packed those trams are. but empirical evidence mean sod all to the bean counters and they wont give a toss about your comfort.

TBH i wouldnt be surprised if they wouldve done this anyway WITHOUT the luas being there and expected you to walk.

LUAS is more expensive on a ticket to Dublin City Centre from various points around the country.

Is the 92 the one that goes Southside exiting at the Central Bank?

No - that's the soon to be cancelled 91. The 92 goes to St Stephens Green.

thats probably what saved it.

they may see it as a connector for the two luas's. it probably wouldve gone if the lines connected.

Are these the only routes they're scrapping??

Surely they're not scrapping those two and keeping all those half empty busses with numbers with odd letters after them scattered around the city? The ones that only come four times a day etc?
