Default DCC 30 kph speed regulations

This new speed regulation in the city centre is a cynical gesture to raise revenue for the NRA etc, by driving traffic from the city centre onto the M50. Who will take a chance to spend time in traffic chaos or being made to drive at a stupid speed when they can pay a toll and move easier. Watch the toll go up during this year!

Very very stupid post. Dublin City Council have absolutely nothing to do with the NRA for a start. Also, even if your speed was reduced by 20kph through the speed zone (unlikely outside of the middle of the night) try doing some simple calcs as to how much longer that would take and compare it with the length of the journeys you're talking about.

I hope the policy is applied ruthlessly to cyclists.

I think the average speed of horse drawn carriages in the early part of this centuary was something like 10MPH in old money and the average speed of dublin city traffic now is 15MPH taking in all the congestion and traffic management systems. I avoid city driving like the plague, and I would rather leave my car at home and take public transport, I accept it does not suit everybody to use public transport and there are many that have to work in city centre.

It was bound to happen at some stage, and I have no doubt the speed restrictions are hear to stay.

I don't agree with it in principal

Very very stupid post? Maybe not! Are you suggesting that some drivers will not opt for using the M50 sooner than take a chance on cutting through town and getting caught up in slower moving traffic risking fines for a marginal error in speed having been exasperated and frustrated by snail pace traffic flow?

Are you naively suggesting that there is no absolutely relationship between government and government agencies, councils and management bodies in this small country that is reknowned for policy making behind closed doors. Are you suggesting that the M50 toll will not increase this year?

Or is this the land of tranparency and open government which always governs for the people rather than self interest groups and companies, croonies and mates? Where vested interest is extinct?
Funny, But I don't believe it.

If this is such a good idea, why do thee AA think it's insane?

Dublin City is dead because of the absolutely choking traffic.

This is here to stay but it will only work if it is enforced. Cue a baby Garda on every junction, but great, bring it on.

I take the bus to town and we bring a wheelie haversack or small wheelie case for town shopping. It works out great. I take the bus to work aswell, no free parking for us, but the bus gets there in half the time anyway, lucky as we are to live on a great buslane all the way. The car is for visiting the relatives ferrying the nippers, or going to B+Q for the heavy stuff. The supermarket stuff is delivered for a fiver, and we save a fortune as we don't buy on impulse either. The local shop is for the butcher, the lotto, the chemist etc. Support your local enterprise.

I do appreciate that our public transport is not up to scratch yet like London, or NY where people do not generally have cars right in the centre, but hire them when the need em. But we will be better in time.

We are getting our city back for ourselves at last, and there is much more to do.

It will be all sorted for the next Celtic Tiger.

The following is a link to the roads where the limit applies:-

Dublin City Council: Speed Limits in Your Area

I am not against speed limits where necessary, but it reducing the speed limit to 30kph (18.6 miles per hour) seems somewhat excessive.

Will the speed limit apply to the Luas also?
