I see that Bairbre de Brún has today spoken out against British-imposed restrictions on migrants.

She said: "Sinn Féin is in favour of the free movement of workers right across the EU and would argue that this should inform decisions by both the British and Irish governments in the time ahead. The Irish experience of immigration has been overwhelmingly positive with migrant workers contributing to society culturally and economically."

John Reid said: 'We need to consider carefully all of the implications of the accession of new states and ensure we have all the necessary safeguards in place to reassure the public'‚

Shameful comment.

Bairbre rightly said: "John Reid's comments are unfortunate and his use of language is of concern - the implication being that the British public needs to be protected from migrant workers. It is important that we embrace those who come to Ireland."

Well said Bairbre, echoing and reinforcing comments made by Mary Lou McDonald earlier last month. Sinn Fein are taking a clear and strong stand on this issue. Well done Sinn Fein.

Its an absolute disgrace that a Sinn Féin member can come out with these pro-colonial policies. Every country has a right to set the boundaries of their nation. Sinn Féin should ask itself what the name of its party means. Is it 'Ourselves Alone' or is it 'Euro Féín'. Mass immigration will be the death of the Irish nation.

Would a Sinn Fein spokesperson care to comment on what will happen to their libertarian open doors policy, towards economic migrants from the accession states. in the event of a downturn in the Irish economy? And if what is good for the goose is good for the gander why have racist restrictions on immigration that only allows people to move freely from other EU countries, what about immigrants from Asia, Africa etc. :
