This is a discussion on Wind up conference within the Progressive Democrats forums, part of the Political Parties category on Politics.ie. I would like to go to this conference as i think there is a real market for a eurosceptic party ...

| So you take highly unpopular views on foreign policy, mix them with highly unpopular policies on the free market and expect to come up with a popular party?

| Though not a member, I'd love to go to support those who have the desire to see party go on. If they choose to go on. I'll join the party.

| I'm a member of the YPDs and of the main Party also.I would like to see the party go on into the future if it is "politically viable" to do so.Even though Ciaran Cannon has said publicly that it is not viable to go on I believe it should be left up to the individual members at the conference to decide whether they wish to continue as a party. I'm thinking about joining Fine Gael if the PDs do decide to wind up.I have gone to several FG meetings and i've been liking what i've heard so far. This present government is a shambles. They've screwed us on education, they've screwed the over 70s out of medical cards. This government should be forced out of office... Saying all of the above,i would welcome some day a party who would be willing to tackle issues such as abortion, gay marriage/civil unions,as well as the economy!!!Until such a party comes into existence I believe i may have to make do with FG or some other centerist/populist party. Thanks for reading. |

| "Some 300 members of the Progressive Democrats have indicated that they will be attending Saturday's special meeting called to decide the future of the party. According to a spokesman, the official party membership stands at over 3,000. The meeting, to be held at a hotel in Mullingar, will take place behind closed doors. It is scheduled to get underway by mid morning on Saturday but that could be delayed by should additional members attending need to have their credentials checked. The meeting will discuss a proposal from the leadership to have the party wound up." RTÉ News: PD future to be decided in Mullingar No chance of getting crushed on the way in then!!
