The United Kingdom or Great Britain?

Great Britain is the term used for the island containing the contiguous nations¹ of England, Scotland and Wales. Great Britain is used to distinguish Britain from Brittania Minor, or Brittany, in France. The term "Great Britain" was officially used only after King James I (who was also James VI of Scotland) acceded to the throne of England and Wales in 1603, styling himself King of Great Britain, although legislative union between Scotland and England did not take place until 1707.

Or just as likely is the grass just greener when on hollidays?
Nobody gets that lucky scratch! They do have a better planning system than Ireland.Which is another way of saying :they have a planning system. You were in SW and Wales, imagine what towns like Marloes,St.Davids,Saundersfoot,etc. would look like if they were in Kerry as opposed to Dyfed. There are rare exceptions like Kilkenny city but most Irish towns could be summed up in that well worn phrase from the Rough Guide series;'there is nothing to detain the casual visitor in ---'

Its good of you to grace Ireland with your presence. But, since you hate it so, I wonder why?

Why thank you.Of course I wouldn't have remained if I hated the country;did I say that in my post?

I do hate the decline in basic literacy - and civility.

I find you most uncivil, actually. Saying that there is NO planning in Ireland is offensive AND incorrect. Decline in literacy? - how would you know that, do you inspect people's writing?

Britain will be great when a significant portion of it will be under water due to rising sea levels.
Dublin and Belfast will probably sink also.
Country highlanders should start stockpiling ammo now.

You presumably have the same opinion of all the other areas that will also be underwater.

Oh yes he does, He just drew attention to the fact that I made a misspelling on another thread.

What's so GREAT about Britain?

London is a one of the world's great cities.

Great Yarmouth.

There have been some great British writers, composers, mathematicians, scientists, engineers, etc.

Recently, the Great Bustard has been reintroduced to Salisbury Plain, having become extinxt in the early 19th century.

It is home to the 'great unwashed' (coined by Victorian novelist and playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton)

It has been a great nuisance to its neighbours from time to time.
