Irish recruitment into British Army doubles
Thursday, June 12, 2008

Latest figures just released in the North show that the number of people from the Republic applying to join the British Army doubled over the past year.
Figures released by the British Army Recruitment in Northern Ireland reveal that 10.5% of all enlistments there came from south of the border.

In the year 2005/2006, just 3% of those who came through the doors of British Army recruitment offices in the North were from the Republic.

The following year that increased to 4.5% and this year it has jumped to a total of 10.5%.

Lieutenant Colonel D*ck Rafferty, the head of British Army Recruitment in the North said the numbers had been in decline.

The growth could be down to less of a stigma amongst friends and family, he said, while soldiers could be seen on TV every night serving abroad.

Quoting Lieutenant Paddy Bury from Wicklow now serving in Afghanistan with The Royal Irish Regiment, he said, Irish men join for a challenge, adventure, travel and camaraderie.

It’s great to see that young Irishmen are up holding our proud tradition of service in the British Forces.

I actually hate this type of specimen more than your average English squaddie. They should be shunned, isolated, named and shamed, stripped of citizenship, and maybe more.

They are not only defending your right to be an armchair revolutionary in a liberal democracy, but also the supply of oil we all depend on and fighting a war against Islamic extremists who wish to destabalise those countries we depend on for oil.

A bit harsh, do you not respect their right to enlist just like its your right to be a bigot?

How is objecting to Irish citizens joining a foreign occupying force bigotry? I'd say it was the contrary.
Considering the British Forces have been involved in collussion with Loyalist gangs, and have killed dozens of Irish citizens, I'd deem these traitors as a security risk to Irish people . I certainly wouldn't want one in my street.
I'm guessing you've never come face to face with a gun toting 19 year old foreigner in your own town.
