| In no particular order of bigotry: 1. Ian Paisley in letter to British Home Secretary in September 1969 Telling him the cause of high Catholic unemployment and poor housing was because "these people breed like rabbits and multiply like vermin" 2. Ian Paisley to El Papa John Paul II in EU Parliament "I Denounce you as the AntiChrist!" 3. Ballymena Cllr Maurice Mills with inside track on wrath of God for homosexuals "The recent Hurricane Katrina descended on New Orleans and took many people suddenly into eternity," "However, the media failed to report that the hurricane occurred just two days prior to the annual homosexual event called the Southern Decadence Festival which the previous year had attracted an estimated 125,000 people. "Surely this is a warning to nations where such wickedness is increasingly promoted and practised. "This abominable and filthy practice of sodomy has resulted in the great continent of Africa being riddled with Aids, all at great cost to the nations and innocent children." 4. The then Belfast DUP Councillor George Seawright said of Catholics in 1984 "Taxpayers money would be better spent on an incinerator and burning the whole lot of them. The priests should be thrown in and burned as well" 5. Adrian Mc Quillan MLA on recent murder of Catholic community worker Kevin Mc Daid in Coleraine “Tit-for-tat all the time. What reason can you see for there being tricolours up yesterday afternoon, a Sunday afternoon? None other than to get a reaction from the loyalist community, and they certainly got a reaction this time, which is very sad.” 6. Iris Robinson MP MLA ‘offering assistance’ to cure homosexuality “I have a very lovely psychiatrist who works with me in my offices and his Christian background is that he tries to help homosexuals — trying to turn away from what they are engaged in". 7. Willie Mc Crea MP MLA on buddies Billy Wright and Mark Fulton “Described them as “Good Loyalists” while sharing a platform with these two LVF sectarian murderers/drug barons in 1996 8. Ian Óg Paisley MLA commenting on wave of attacks on catholic homes in Ballymena in 2006 “Self-inflicted" 9. Gregory Campbell MP MLA in support of the death penalty “There must be some form of radical response by a civilised society to protect the innocent.” And last but not least: 10. Sammy Wilson MP MLA (Finance Minister and former Environment Minister) “I do not believe in man made global warming” “Lead Belly” referring to Alex Maskey who had been shot by loyalists (Belfast City Hall) “Leprechaun Language” referring to Irish Language (Belfast City Hall) “Gypsies” referring to Catholics (Belfast City Hall) “When it comes to a downturn, I think if jobs are becoming vacant and you've got people with equal skills, and can do the job, etc., then I think preference should be given to people from Northern Ireland."-Talking about migrant workers Forget the BNP or the KKK, its the DUP that do bigotry best and given that this is what DUP members feel comfortable saying in public you can just imagine what they say in private. |

But two serious questions come to mind. 1). Do the 26 counties goverment and Westminister, and indeed PSF, not realise what a dangerous game they are playing going along with people who's attitudes would put them far outside the main public discourse in both the Free State and the "UK" as if they were "normal" politicians? 2). What can we do about Orange-fascism? As much as I think Cauflied is wrong their is a qualative difference between his brand of Unionism and the DUP,TUV,etc (non-sectarianism, lack of hatred and fear towards the rest of the country). 10 years on from the GFA the 6 counties remains a rather peculiar state.

| Come to which conclusion?

| Can you include former DUP members? Or do I have to start a TUV top ten thread? Anyway, I nominate Roy Gillespie for his declaration that 15 year old Michael McIlveen would most probably not get to heaven because he had not been born again. To be fair , he waited for a few days to say it, though, but made sure he got in there before the funeral. Classy guy.

| That's its a waste of time trying to pretend that these DUP flat earthers are open to any type of political reasoning or are interested in sharing power on the basis of equality never mind working the all-Ireland institutions of the GFA. It was generally expected by the great and the good that once they became the dominant unionist party and were forced to share power on that basis that they would have to reign in the knuckle dragging antics of many of their representatives. This happened to an extent when Big Ian was in the ascendency but after the TUV gave the party a bloody nose in the Dromore Bye-election and since Robinson became leader the party has reverted to type. This has become even more evident since the battering Dodds got at the EU election in June and will continue to increase in the run up to the Westminister Elections next year and the Assembly and new District Council elections in 2011. What to do about it-For Sinn Fein to unilateraly collapse the Assembly at this stage would hand the DUP the amunition they are seeking to face down Jim Allister in the upcoming elections. However Sinn Féin should signal its intention to pull out of the Policing Board and DPPs by December if the DUP don't deliver on the transfer of policing and justice. This would freek out the British and Irish governments who are supposed to be the guardians of the GFA and its implementation and they would be forced, albiet relutantly, to get tough with the DUP. If the DUP fold on the issue then unionism would splinter even more and if they don't they would rightly get the blame for the collapse of the institutions that would inevitably follow- a win win scenario. |

| Cant believe you left this one out. When a Catholic school kid was beaten to death in a sectarian attack Roy Gillespie of the DUP publicly consigned the teenage victim to eternal damnation of hell. "As a Catholic Michael McIlveen won't get into heaven unless he's been saved. If he did not repent before he died he will not get into heaven. Catholics are not acceptable in heaven," said Gillespie. |

| ---- Atleast three DUP members recently joined a racist anti-Irish facebook site called 'No Pope here', and although it had disgusting comments and threats they publicly defended the site. ---- The DUP also proposed that secondary schools teach creationism as an alternative to the evolution 'theory'. Mr Givan said: "I have never believed in the theory of evolution and, like many people believe in the teaching of creation. I believe science points to creation but our schools are teaching a very narrow remit and many exclude alternative theories to evolution. I have asked the Council to write to local schools encouraging them to give equality of treatment to other theories of the origins of life and how the earth came into existence" -- A former DUP adviser has started up a fundamental religious pressure group to promote “the historic Protestant faith” He demands that the DUP include the biblical creationist viewpoint at the new Giants Causeway visitor centre. Well they will be visitors who certainly wont be back! Unless they're from Texas. |
