• Senator Norris claims media engaged in a vendetta against him

Senator David Norris speaking during a session in the Seanad on media standards.
Senator David Norris told the Seanad this afternoon that the media had engaged in a vendetta against him as a result of his work in favour of privacy and defamation laws.

The TCD Senator, a former Presidential candidate, told a debate on media standards that he had to change his telephone number "3 or 4 times", with the media able to get his phone number within 12 hours. Norris claimed the vendetta against him was deliberate and a "pay back". Norris went on to say that on the issue of ethics and standards in jouralism, there were very few journalists left who had them.

During Norris' remarks, he claimed that wasn't a single media outlet that hadn't defamed him, claiming that politicians were frightened of upsetting the fourth estate.
