    SIPO says lowest ever donations disclosed in 2011 despite being an election year

    The Standards in Public Office Commission has issued a statement this evening with details of donations received by political parties in 2001. SIPO says just €30,997 in donations were reported, the lowest figure ever, despite there being a general election, two referenda and a presidential campaign last year. SIPO also says it's referring a file on the Communist Party to the Gardai for failing to file a disclosure.

    Sinn Fein seeking judicial review of ESM veto

    Sinn Fein's Pearse Doherty has lodged an application in the courts this morning seeking judicial review over whether Ireland has a veto over the European Stability Mechanism if there's a No to the Fiscal Treaty referendum on Thursday. SF (and others including the ULA's Paul Murphy) have argued Ireland still has a veto. The statement from Sinn Féin is below the fold.

    Former Fianna Fail Minister for Justice Gerry Collins has written to the Smithwick Tribunal to refute evidence that Jack Lynch ordered non-cooperation over an investigation by the RUC over the Warrenpoint murders. Collins, in his letter (which is below the fold) has asked the Tribunal to allow him to defend Jack Lynch's honour by appearing at the Tribunal again.
