North Kerry/West Limerick The new North Kerry/West Limerick Constituency certainly throws up a few interesting possiblities next time out.
Tom Fleming, for one, must be licking his lips at the thought of Castleisland moving into South Kerry. If he runs, he will be sure to pick up extra votes in that town, as it is very close to his SCartaglin base.
Tommy Mac, on the other hand, will be sweating. The loss of Castleisland certainly damages his chances, and he will also have to contend with Niall Collins, should Niall Collins follow the Collins hinterland into this new constituency. It will make for an interesting spectator base next time.
Tommy Mac has two choices. Stay in Kerry north and sweat it out, or follow his base into Kerry South. If he goes in Kerry South, he will also have the added advantage of the Dingle Peninsula. Tom Mac's grandfather, Tom Mac always did well there when that was part of the old Kerry North Constituency, and Mac's office manager, Collette Scanlon, is from the area. |
