Twenty years ago today was red letter day in the World's history as the Berlin Wall fell it signified the end of the horrific tyranny of communism.

Sadly, however, this political cancer lives on imposed on unwilling victims in two outposts of repression, the sickeningly named Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Cuba with it's morbidly ironic national motto Patria o Muerte which means "Homeland or death".

There were celebrations in Berlin today, where...

I *heart* Klaus. Not simply because of his opposition to Lisbon, mostly because of his ability to cut the crap and say things as they are. Below is an excellent example of this.

(The video is in English, with Czech subtitles)

While you may not agree with his views on global warming, and for the most part I don't, you have to agree that he's spot on about being lectured...

Vatican State Secretary, for Czech Daily MF Dnes said yesterday:

Quote:
"Individual European countries have their own identity. The European Union prescribes its laws or views to them and they must comply with their traditions and history. Some countries are logically resisting this - for example, Ireland. If Europe recognized homosexual couples as equal to marriage, for example, it would go against its own history. And it would be adequate to stand against it. The Church...

here is an awful lot of odd behaviour going on in the various Yes to Lisbon camps.

On Monday Mary Ellen Synon spoke about Willie O'Dea's weird outburst against Lorraine Mullally of Open Europe.

Quote:
And on and on, and you can only admire the depth of research Open Europe is willing to put into this issue. However, all Mr O’Dea can say to Open Europe and Miss Mullally is, ‘Butt out,’ and claim they form some part of a British tradition of underestimating the Irish people.

I was surprised when Cathrine Day came to Ireland, I was uneasy about the commission lecturing to school children, but on the face of what they said they were doing I let it pass. It seems it was a little more than informing children about the functions of the EU but that is being discussed elsewhere.

However, I was plesantly surprised when Cathrine Day confirmed that nothing bad would befall Ireland if we voted no and that we wouldn't and couldn't be kicked out. It's nice to hear...

If it were anyone other than Roche one might take more seriously any slur on Ganley's backers or his agenda, but from Roche , I would let him fill his hot air bag with his arrant nonsense and let it fly off and away .. to that hole in the atmosphere - it must serve some purpose. Perhaps the hole is Ghia's way of dealing with the likes of Roche , and Cullen , and Harney , and whoever the new genius is who proceeds everything with '' in the context of.''- a FF Minister of State - and God knows we need them like we do a new deluge in Gort!
He says this as frequently says '' Clearly...''
Anyone done a ' Clearly ''count on Harney ?
I've clocked up 12 in a 5 minute interview .. but I'd say this would be easily beaten as things in politics get more complex.
Harney has to be the Naom Chomsky of Irish politics.. or could that be Connor Lenihan ?...
