Cooper all the way

I like them all, but more so The Right Hook because of Newstalk's increase emphasis on audience-input. I have often found Drivetime too liberal on issues like immigration - I still haven't forgotten their cheerleading for the Nigerian student who was allowed back into Ireland after deportation - it set an unwelcome precedent in terms of respect for our asylum laws to reward those who fail their applications. I haven't listened to Today FM that much, but whenever I have done, I have found The Last Word to be a high quality current-affairs programme. Maybe I just find it more convenient to roll the buttonfrom the start to the end of the frequency-range. If I had to criticise The Right Hook it would be my reservations about his tendencies to invoke the threat of a return to 1930's politics, this time implying that immigrants could become scapegoats like the Jews. I don't think those of us who want tighter immigration-control - in the vast majority of cases - are blaming immigrants per se. What we have issue with are the failed policies that have led to a race to the bottom in our economic using exploited migrant-labour and displacing Irish labour. I disavow any notion that we who want tighter controls are the heirs to fascism. On the contrary, it is in part to prevent the return of fascism that we call for tighter immigration-controls. Those counties with a strong Far Right tend to be those that threw open their borders to newcomers without forward planning for the infrastructural, economic and social consequences. In that context, it is a perfectly reasonable argument, imho, to say that tighter immigration-controls may actually prevent the rise of fascism in Ireland.

Drivetime for the depth of the programme, well resourced and contributors; O'Leary, O'Connor & Finlay (there podcasts are treasurers). Not keen on the Mail on Sunday Travel writer but thats personal taste. Also I like the guests to make me think, I was listening to Hook yesterday and they had a whole segment devoted to Exorcism (based on a guy promoting a book), I mean is that a good standard?

Probably a Cooperite myself, with a bit of Hook mixed in. Agree with general consensus that Drivetime is loosing it. Mary W was better on her legal beat, so bring back Rachel English with less of the giggling presentation style. Also have to agree that the RTE offering seems to rush headlong from one sports bulletin to another, with bits of light filler in between. Enjoy the inputs from George L & David McC
