Default Migration Watch closed down!

It would appear that the Site has been forced to close to protect its Sources.

This is surely the greatest attack on Online Freedom of Expression we have yet experienced in our Country.

I hope the Snitches behind this are proud of themselves!

It seems they fell foul of the Nigerian Candidate, one Frances Soney-Ituen, who is standing in the Locals in Athy, Co Kildare next June and who complained to the local Leinster Leader. Then the Irish Sun got involved and ran the story. When this Site didn’t come up with an answer to their liking quick enough it looks like somebody called in the Garda Internet Unit. Migration Watch have now (I presume this must have been put up today?) issued the following statement part of which reads as follows:

‘This afternoon we were contacted by official authorities and asked to provide a full explanation of our website and names and addresses of Migration Watch staff, and the details of our suppliers of information and posters. We were also asked to remove the links to our Election Watch section.

We have since refused the request, and disposed of such information.

It is with great shame, Because of this we have decided to cease the Migration Watch website.’

Migration Watch Ireland

I presume the official authorities in this case were the Garda Internet Unit. It looks like it was a informer from the The Immigrant Council of Ireland who ran to the Garda on this one though.

This is a bad day for freedom of expression on the Internet in our Country. If people seriously want their own viewpoint to be free from censorship in this Country, then they should learn to respect the Right of others to disagree with them also.

Serves them right.

Sad to see this really.

Just like I was sad to see the Garda confiscate an Israeli flag at the protest on Saturday because someone had deemed it offensive. WTF!??

The purpose of the site was highlighting Immigration into Ireland in an alarmist way, bordering on Daily Mail type of hysterics and then beyond. It served no purpose accept to provide a platform to some very dubious people IMHO.

Has nothing to do with freedom of expression but more with curbing this type of nonsense. As website that asks "We also urge all true Irish patriots to keep up the fight to keep Ireland Irish. " is vile and won't be missed IMHO.

God forbid alarmism ever happens. That's never been used by politicians, solicitors et al. We all need to be protected from this??? Are we so thick?
Down with this sort of thing!!! etc.,

I disagree with the purpose of the site but I support their right to make eejits of themselves.

Not when it is breaking the law.

Well, while I don't agree with their mission statement or point of view (as I draw it from the above post) I still don't see what they were doing wrong or indeed illegal (assuming they weren't publishing names or in breach of the Incitement of hatred act etc), assuming that is the case it does very much seem an assault of free speech.
