Higgens made a good case that Lisbon will not solve all the EU's problems or complete the European project. I agree with him. But he didn't prove the case to reject Lisbon - which is a move in the right direction.

Best course is to pass Lisbon and then move on to the next treaty.

im biased obviously but I thought ruairí spoke extremely well. Interesting to see Libertas's new lady, nice to see a new face other than Naoise, Declan, David, John or Ulick.

No. He said (correctly) that it was not the parliament's business to vote to respect or reject any vote in a country. The motion was just a Sinn Fein gimmick. He told Mad McKenna, who was doing her usual hyperventolating act that she and SF got worked up over small things, which they do. SF are p*ssed off with de Rossa because he would not support their gimmick motion. It is no more the parliament's business to vote to 'respect' our referendum result than it is the parliament's business to vote to respect our general election result, our local election results or anything else. It is none of the parliament's business. Its is our business. (Maybe if SF's MEPS turned up more often to parliament they might find something more useful to do than post gimmick motions.)

They barracked and barracked for him to answer a question (not normal at the forum). When he did they all tried to shout him down...democracy Sinn Fein and Mc Kenna style. Easy knowing SF are recent arrivals to normal democratic politics
