| Any news on the Portlaoise FF ticket , Never heard them so quiet. Jack Nolan is reported to have quit. Tony Walsh , would be a shocking addition to the ticket. Cant get anyone to run in Ballyroan, Cant get anyone to canvass in Portlaosie Not like the FF of old. Spoke to an old FF diehard, he reckons that they will do less damage their chances if they skip the door to door stuff. |

Sending letters out with no sign of the FF logo. The ban on posters in the town will help FF. Im hearing they are goimg to be hammered on the doorsteps so they might just cherry pich their areas and canvass in groups. Personally I would never abuse or run anyone from my door. Even FF should not have to tollerate this but there is anger out there. As far as i know Liam Phelan has not started yet.Waiting untill the dust settles after the budget. |

| I wasn't too impressed with Gilmores speech on saturday night. All rhetoric and no substance. If they want to make substantial gains in the elections then they will have to put forward alternative credible policies. It's all very well spending your allotted time in the Dail bashing FF but Gilmore offered little in the way of letting us know what Labour would do to solve the crisis. His only proposal was a 48% tax on incomes over €100K - even Homer Simpson could do better than that! Also, Labour didn't rule out putting FF back in power after a general election and some delegates were even reported to favour such a move if it meant Labour being in Govt. How hypocritical is that! Labour candidates should be confronted with these issues on the doorsteps during the local election canvassing. |

| Bystander, I too listened to Gilmore's speech. Typically he was short on detail I paid a good deal of attention to the interviews with delegates and despite all their talk about going on their own, they will go into Government with whoever has the majority of seats. All Labour candidates should be told this. Definately they will go in with FF if they have enough votes |

| Now geographically this is a big area to cover, but is there any possibility that the status quo could be broken? I am informed the shinners will announce a very surprising candidate.Anyone who has seen the tallies from 2007 will know there is a substantial SF vote in this area. Not enough to take a seat considering its gone to 6 seats but what if the candidate was very credible? And apart from the seat who would a SF candidate take votes from and how could this influence the outcome for the other candidates? |

No seat for the Shinners in Borris in Ossary. FG's John King narrowly lost out in 2004 for the seventh and final seat and it would have given FG 4 FF 2 Lab 1. As it is now a six seater it must be more difficult for FG to pull off four seats out of six, but they have a very strong team and if there is a big enough swing to FG it may happen. Eddie Kirwan who is in the race as an Independent makes it difficult to call. Michael Moloney MCC (Indep) Laois CC |
