No. Miss. I could just as easily claimed asylum in any one of a number of countries on route to Ireland from Nigeria, but chose not to. Why? Because Ireland is a "soft touch", populated by gullible, soft-headed people much like yourself.

She needs to be deported to send out a message to bogus asylum seekers that we're not accepting F.G.M. as a legitimate reason for claiming asylum.
Like most excuses that are posted here, this 'logical inference' is a red herring. In one of the first cases relating to a claim for asylum on the grounds of flight from FGM, this same argument was used extensively. The case in question involved Fauziya Kassindja who sought asylum in the US in the mid 90's. She won her case and the court accepted the argument placed before it that the 'floodgates' claim was bogus and unlikely to occur. The court further made the observation that if any decsion of the court was to prove in future years to prseent a problem for the state, then the state could amend or introduce new laws to counter any such problems. Asylum was granted. The case and these arguments are fully outlined in the book 'Do They Hear You Cry' and is an excellent source for any one seeking or interested in facts.

This is not the USA in the mid 1990s

- it is Ireland in the year 2009.

We have seen 10s of thousands of people arrive here in the last decade and claim 'Asylum' - many of them from Nigeria.

In fact IIRC per capita of our own population we have the highest number of Nigerian Asylum seekers on the Planet!

Care to explain why we have this number one spot?

Surely even you can see that this womans claim is Bogus & she (or her Family) is being manipulated by a Trafficking Gang to break open our Country (& the EU by extension) to a new wave of Mass Immigration.

You can be sure there are 'Rights' groups and Legal experts in the pay of these Criminal Trafficking Gangs.

Lets not let them win.

Hopi, you seem to have a greater knowledge of the subject then simply a plea for the two children in question. Perhaps it is time for you to state exactly who you represent in this matter. Full disclosure

I presume you are suggesting that I may have 'greater knowledge' than others posting here, if so, you should have no difficulty agreeing with my opinion. I represent no one, BTW

The point is that the 'floodgates' argument was tested in a court of law and was found to be irrelevent and therefore it is a bogus agrument and it's use invalid.
The Geneva Convention spells out the rights of individuals and the responsibilities of states. That aside, there is also such a thing as human compassion. I suggest that you go and get information on FGM in all it's forms, get some understanding of the unbelievable pain and suffering that women endure as a reslut of this obscene pratcise. Having done that I would be very surprised if you retain your position.

Yes I have and I do not share your view that he/she 'knows what they are talking about' or that the post in question adds any light to the matter at all.
Flight from FGM is legimate grounds to seek asylum and two children are at risk of that if returned to Nigeria. That is the simple matter we are confronted with.

Hopi - this is Ireland - no one in Ireland is automatically bound by the decisions of the Courts of the United States.

The fact that one Judge in the USA made this decision in the mid 1990s is irrelvent given the Explosion in Bogus Aslyum seeking since then.

Human Compassion?

What about a level of understanding & compassion for Irish People in all of this?

Quite right. And if the US was going to buy her story, how come she didn't wind up at JFK Airport? She's cost Ireland an awful lot of money, all for nothing.
