You're reverting back to type.

Absolutism, not very helpful here.

As has been pointed out, several EU countries consider FGM as reasonable grounds for claiming asylum. The fact remains those countries have not been inundated with applicants from countries where FGM is practiced including Nigeria.

The fact of matter is that FGM is considered by many in Nigeria as a cultural dimension to their lives. Many accept it as custom and don’t object, in fact they consider those who are not circumcised to be inferior and unclean. Some people do object but the practice is forced upon them (by extended family members-keeping up with the jones, shame, fear of social exclusion- blah f*ckin blah).

This woman does not wish this mutilation on her children and used every means at her disposal to ensure her daughters where spared. I accommodate her right to choose and her children’s right to be free of such barbaric practices.

If anyone, and I mean anyone demanded my daughter have her genitals tampered with so as to make her more acceptable to some misogynist custom I would do anything I could to prevent it, including lying, stealing, cheating, swindling and if the need was warranted killing.

It is the only pertinent question here for people to consider.

Its a stupid question.

Should FGM be grounds to claim asylum? Yes, as it is in many other EU countries.

Should every child who arrives here from Nigeria be given asylum? No, why should they?

The lack of ability of some to even consider this objectively is worrying.

I don't care what uni-dimensional universe you occupy but I quite frankly want nothing to do with it.

Would you fly directly to a country which would protect you and your daughter, and which had already granted you a visa? Or would you fly to another civilised country and apply for asylum there? Or would you have yourself and daughter smuggled from that country to a third country, carefully avoiding the country which had granted you a visa, and apply for asylum there?

If FGM were the real reason, rather than economic factors, why didn't we have thousads of asylum-seekers in the 1980's? It's economic-migration through illegal immigration.

Also on the FGM issue and the condemnation of the supposedly widespread practice of FGM in countries like Nigeria, I would like to know how supporters of multiculturalism reconcile this attitude with their belief that all cultures are equal and that the State should be neutral between them? Are you saying that Nigerian culture is worse than Irish culture, and if so, does that make you racist?

Whatever it took, as would you if you had children.

Incidentally, what’s the position of the Father on this?

It's an acceptable/legitimate ground to claim here too! Absolutely it is. And rightly so. But you HAVE TO PROVE YOU ARE PERSONALLY AT RISK.

Pamela has not proved her children are personally at risk. Leaving out of it altogether the fake document issue, she has never substantiated her claim to the satisfaction of either the RAC/RAT, Minister or the High Court.

What more do you want? A decision taken by the local Resident's Against Racism committee?
