PetevonPete,

I suggest you ignore this nonsense. The anti-drugs record of The WP is there for all to see. In fact, it's detailed to a large extent in the book this thread is about. There's no point responding to the baseless allegations of people who despise The WP because it stood up for - and stands for - anti-sectarian republican and uncompromising class politics, and opposed sectarianism, mindless militarism and anti-democratic vigilantism.

Never heard any anti drug group in Finglas saying anything like that.

Gentlemen, maybe it is an idea to split this discussion off to the Dublin section? Thanks.

Conor McCabe at Dublin Opion has uploaded a lot of audio from the Greaves Summer School, of a session on remembering 1969, which was addressed by Brian Hanley. There is also some of the discussion, which includes many people mentioned in the book. No-one currently from The WP though.

I think the reason a lot of people still continue to despise the WP is firstly the murder of Seamus Costello, the greatest leader the Irish working class had since Connolly and Larkin.

What do you mean by "anti-sectarian" republicanism? Parroting the line of the British counter insurgency effort that the armed struggle against colonialism in the 6 counties was a "sectarian" conflict? Also however much I find all sectarianism disgusting I think claiming the sectarianism of the oppressed and that of the oppressor are one and the same thing is pretty low and well rather unMarxist.

Also there are other traditions in Irish Protestant identity than Orange fascism. Opposing that sick idealogly is not the same thing as sectarianism and if protestant workers dont break from it and continue to support British Imperialism they are nothing but class traitors. Orange and Green are incompatible.

As for uncompromising class politics just read what one of your supporters wrote on here about the assasination of Garda Mc Cabe.

What do you "anti-democratic" vigilantism? Working class control of working areas? Ordinary people standing up to the parasites who would make their neighbourhoods unlivable?

I mean by anti-sectarian republicanism the kind of republicanism that has never engaged in killing people for their religion. And the kind of republicanism that recognises that it is only through the unity of the Irish people that the connection with England can be broken. The kind of republicanism that talks about the working class, and not the nationalist working class as opposed to the loyalist working class.

As for anti-democratic vigilantism. The sort of thing the Real IRA and others have been up to recently - shooting people who have crossed them without community support.

Drugs are a social problem, and must be dealt with at a social and not an individual level. That's the Marxist approach.

If you (and Garibaldy) have time to give an outline of this, it would be appreciated.
