Default Irish History left to fill in on Wikipedia

Hi All,

I’ve come across the following section of Wikipedia. It’s Irish history by years and I’ve noticed that as you go back in time the historic information becomes very scarce.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_years_in_Ireland

Just thought I’d share this with any historians who wish to fill in bits and pieces about historic events that they have knowledge on.

(For anyone who doesn’t know, Wikipedia is the on-line encyclopedia that anyone can contribute to. Just click “Edit” and type)

The period between 1921 and 1969 is left out (as it always is) in the main ireland section.

There's no much to report except from 1921 to 1932 we had honest men trying to do their best to set up a democratic and corruption free government and civil service and from 1932 to 1969 with 2 interruptions we had in effect a catholic dictatorship which drove the country back to penal times - Ireland being the only country in Europe which got poorer as the 20th centruy went on because we had our own special brand of backward leader in Dev.

Then from 1969 onwards the scales were finally taken off our eyes and things got better and now we are back to having a corrupt backward leader who hasn't the faintest idea how to use the wealth we have created to tackle any of the problems we face becasue instead od using his time to implement policies he has to spend hours everyday meeting his lawyers to get his lies err I mean story right. Then he has to open an envelope and then he has to meet with AIB staff to make sure they know what will happen to them if they land him in it - not that he would ever put it so crudely.

So with all that you can't really expect the man to have any time left to actually govern.

So Ireland in a nutshell: Got independence, immediately turned on each other, got fed up fighting, fixed the things we broke fighting each other and used all our money up, got involved with the wrong man who went on and on and on and on. Finally got rid of him, took 30 years to undo the damage he did, in our exhaustion at making something of ourselves we didn't notice we handed the keys over to a total moron and we've been tryign to get rid of him since but he seems to have some sort of magic hold over us as we know it makes sense to get rid of him as he's a crook but like all crooks we can't admit our stupidity in falling for the same line 3 times.

You could be up for that prize, CJH. I think the Earl's synopsis of Irish history is fair enough.

Why do you think I'm bitter? Just becasue I don't fall for the charms of Bertie? I support fine Gael and I'm perfectly aware of the many flaws of Fine Gael. There is no such thing as a perfect political party or a perfect political system.

However I can see believe that politicians from Fine Gael, Labour, the Greens, the PDs, Joe Higgins and even Sinn Fein sit around a table and research policies and debate and develop policies in line with what they think the eople who support them want. The joy of a democracy is that we can freely debate the merits of those policies and debate if they are crap or worth considering. Whereas I genuinely can not conceive of anyone in FF developing a policy on anything until firtst off making sure it is in the interests of the builders who bank roll FF.

I'm quite happy for my taxes to go funding all political parties and while I don't support IRA/SF I'm quite happy to accept some people do and part of the price of a democracy is that IRA/SF exist and get state funds.

I would love to be a fly on a wall at a cabinet metting or an FF party meeting as I genuinely do not believe they have the ability to develop a policy on its merits without tailoring it to FF interests - on one hand that might be good politics and FF have been in power long enough you might argue thats all that matters - maybe.

I happen to disagree and even if Enda Kenny becomes Taoiseach for a short while I suspect he will retire with a record to be proud of and can grow old an elder statesman whosee childre nand family can be proud of whereas at some point Ahern will be found to be the err person who is light with the truth and more time will be spent on those deeds than anything he ever did in government.

I'm not bitter or cynical just realistic but you'd rather call me names than explain why you support the likes of FF. EVery single person who votes for FF is resonsible for what it has done to Irish society.

Earl of Desmond. You are an idiot and you should be ashamed of yourself for writing such partisan ********************e. Please stop jerking off to pictures of Kevin o'Higgins and read a history book. And, let me tell you, I say that as someone with a fair amount of sympathy for the current FG - a party which really did want a catholic dictatorship in the country int he 1930's.
