Default There's an 'Age is not a contraceptive' campaign in the UK.

I would have thought that when women get to a certain age that they'd be familiar with the fact that late pregnancies do happen .

Adding in the link to the video here :

BBC News - Unplanned pregnancy warning to older women over 35

What is interesting is that an equal number of unplanned pregnancies occur in the forties and in the teens in Britain,
so hitting the forties does not imply that people should flush the contraception down the toilet (if they are sexually
active pre-menopausals, just cos the periods are changing doesn't mean the fertility isn't (er) working)

I have no Irish figures for unplanned later pregnancies but given that we are a repressed post-Catholic society that
would like to see women perpetually pregnant and making the dinner, we tend to have an acute awareness of
these issues and how they can effect our lives.

Heres the Sky coverage :

It's a bit ironic, given the numbers of women in their late 30s and 40s paying a fortune for fertility treatment...

it's less ironic if one is a woman and had decided not to have more children. Complacency about falling pregnant is a silly option. Should we have a sex-education programme for grown-ups ?

I think it would be an excellent idea. It should also address the incidence of STDs, which are rising among older age groups with the increase in marriage break-up and formation of new relationships.

I have several 40-something friends starting families, but I can imagine that starting out with a new baby when your family's reared would be a bit of a nightmare!

a brief scan of the IFPA elicited nothing much on geriatric pregnancies and STIs BUT its great to see they have both Facebook and Twitter !! l would contend without an iota of evidence, mind , that lrish women are more savvy on contraception than British women. l thought the correct term for mature (PC enough?) pregnancies was actually 'geriatric pregnancy' ? ..just extended the thought into the whole STI area. Irish Family Planning Association | Facebook
