    USIs website hacked?

Maybe they are just changing the joomla template but has USIs website been hacked?

Right now its something called the Terran Tribune!

It's not exactly fantastically designed by any stretch of the imagination....but I really hope it hasn't!

Thats the whole point of a CMS , you can edit it on the fly....no downtime and if you are lucky nobody notices as you make the changes.

Amazingly enough as someone who has designed website I know only too well the capabilities of CMS - and the little 'do not publish changes' facility that allows you to have the site still running while you make your changes and the user knows no different.

Anyway.....its gone back to the original

..but having worked with CMSes you're probably also familar with the fact that the USI site is built on Joomla, which doesn't have that feature.

Why the relentless cynicism, newswire? For a website that they got done for free by a volunteer, who custom-made the current theme for them, it's not half bad. You know right well that there's not much of a budget for stuff like websites in USI so why this unwavering demand for complete and flawless perfection all the time? It's a website that a novice supplied for no charge, would it hurt to lay off a bit?

It's pure sensationalist cynicism to assume that an innocent template change - as a result of someone playing with new designs - is a sign of a hacking and you know it. It's amazing; your consistent attitude towards USI almost suggests you have a chip in your shoulder over something.

    Not at all.....Vive La USI!!!

And a number of professionals offered to do it for free....USI turned it down....for a volunteer it is a quite good job, don't get me wrong. But a national organisation should strive to be more, I am sure the skills of these volunteers could be better utilized in other areas.

Just professionalise, that's all I would hope for from USI.

Newswire likes cynicism, it keeps him warm at night (whenever a SO isnt around). Mind you, i'd be bitter too, if USI had had a professional designer working as a sabbat for two years running and they still ended up getting a volunteer to design it, i'd imagine that would piss me off.

This is case of the emperors new clothes but it makes a fair point (in the end).

The website was the very same as the old one (look, software, word for word content) except that it had UCDs banner (with the USI logo in it obviously)

However, at least the guy/gal who went at it got the thing updateable - the blog and forums (however poor they are) will be a great help to USI in getting people involved.

I checked out the new site about 10 minutes ago and dont really see what your looking at with the logo thing? Looks a million times more better and dare I say it more professional. Fair play to the lads involved

    Re: USIs website hacked?

Hi all, Kris here - I'm the person who has been updating USI.ie.

I'm not really one for posting online but to help with this matter. A test page was available for a little while I edited the style sheet/html. Apologies if any one was distracted/worried by it. All is resolved now, it couldnt really be avoided.

On the poing of 'jnessmonster': though the website contains much of the same backside info/content as the old site I think the work of volunteers like the member from UCD who helped with getting the site running again is invaluable - USI can only benefit from more of it!

We have a huge volume of members with many many skills - you cant always guarantee people will get elected with technical abilities - amore active members are hugely valuable.

I'm new enough in USI so I cant really talk about the past. So, where to from here? More updates, more content and more use of USI.ie as a resource by students.

    Thanks,
