UU Youth Wings Launch Campaign Against UU Political Protocol

The University of Ulster units of Ógra Fianna Fáil, SDLP Youth, UUP and Ógra Sinn Féin are set to come together to call for an immediate end to the UU Political Protocol.

The Protocol enforces measures such as banning political posters, campaigns, logos, allows recruitment only once a year under strict supervision and even bans political representatives entering University of Ulster campuses. The current Protocol can be read here.

Convince me to sign it - dont post a link, tell me, in your own words why I should?

Democracy needs open ended dabate, The University of Oxford recently invited a known neo nazi to speak there , In my opinion banning political aspects of life on campus is in itself a political act.
Students have the right not to join political parties, but they must have the choice to exercise that right.

Oh I probably would sign it, but I am tired of people looking for a signature on a petition with the assumption I am going to sign it?

I'll speak for SDLP Youth and tell you why I think the Political Protocol needs to be abolished. It discriminates against societies on the basis that they are political. It was written around 8 years ago and any recent changes have not went through any consultation with students. It does not go through any Equality Impact Assessment like all other university policies.

If there are going to be guidelines for societies, they need to be for all societies and they need to be created by students.

SDLP Youth have set up http://www.AbolishProtocol.com which gives more background information, and although each political society has their own petition, I understand the signatures will be handed in together.
